Tipping is pretty much run its course, with most Gen Z + millennials expressing their disdain at this uniquely american experience. It’s warranted, but it’s still a little sad. This will probably be a very unpopular piece based on the hate we young people have for tipping. Only Americans could have come up with the unique idea of tipping as a way to encourage good service. If you could afford it and were a big tipper the thought was that you could receive priority service for an extra optional fee. This led companies who realized that they could afford to keep the same profit margin while paying employees less and/or lowering prices, leading to restaurant type places hiring only the most exceptional service in an effort to maximize tips. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing at all, at its core its a unique American phenomenon of goodwill and community that, depending on whether the people who paid for the exceptional service (the big tippers) thought they were getting a good return on their money, was a win-win situation for all parties involved. If you couldn’t afford to tip you were taking advantage of others goodwill, if you worked as a waiter/ess you got extra money for your “effort”, if you were a restaurant tipping helped you out a lot with price control and paying employees, and helped businesses stay afloat. Tipping is considered an insult in some parts of asia, and in general is only performed in America. So what happened to tipping? Well it’s quite obvious, with the economy being rough too many people can’t afford to tip generously, and too many companies relied on the goodwill of tipping to lower costs. It was a little bubble. Some companies even went out of their way to show you tip percentages (with outrageous percentages!) on a little ipad for something that required zero service like takeout. This obviously backfired, and made people dislike tipping even more.
Heres one of the only real losers on the tipping win win situation I was talking about earlier. Did you know tipping is taxed? Like it currently is, you have to report tip money as your income for income tax. The IRS is well within their legal rights (we can argue about moral rights another time) to audit you if you don’t report taxed. I brought this up a couple of weeks ago and was shocked that people were arguing with me about it. Its 100% taxed, thats why Trump is arguing for a No Tax on Tips policy. Just its a well known loophole that the vast majority (before ipad) tips are in cash where the staff/companies don’t report. Not reporting, which is common for tipping, meant the IRS was the sole loser of tipping culture. I believe that the Trump tip policy will effectively kill tipping and put it out of its miserable decline. That policy will never be enforced on the basis of how many people could abuse it (I.E. people tipping 1 million dollars tax free to the sole employee of this sole proprietorship who is my wife).
Song Break: I have been listening to Dire Straits more and more. Their album Comminiqué c’est magnifique.

Anyway, this is mostly a melancholic account about tipping. Its going to be sad to see another uniquely American thing disappear. Thankfully we still have NFL players getting in trouble with the Law. By the way, while on the subject, Liberals have extremely funny takes on tipping. Most of them obviously believe in the growing idea that its retarded but they believe its the government’s responsibility to ensue a “living wage” for staff (whatever that means). A lot of them, especially on twitter, use tipping as a way to lie about the many american groups that compose america. Recently someone posted a picture of someone writing “Vote Trump 2024: No Tax On Tips” on the restaurant copy of their receipt. (The worker cropped out the tip line and captioned it: “How to know you got Zero Tip on a order”) This is probably the funniest boldface lie told about tipping, but not the only lie told. Many liberals like to complain about older white church groups that I assume order a big brunch on sundays after church as a kind of excursion which could be annoying for a worker on sunday morning. The liberals like to say that they don’t tip at all, or tip very little, while any usual suspects for non tipping (BLACK PEOPLE) tip extremely generously and selflessly. We here at Machados13 Repository would like to ask you, the readers, if black people tip generously. If you said, NO, you have all ready uncovered one of the many causes of why tipping is dying.
